RIO GRANDE CITY - Elias Lopez, 88, died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Starr Co. Memorial Hospital in Rio Grande City, Texas. Sanchez Funeral Home will be in charge of his funeral arrangements.
Elias Lopez- Rio Grande City, Texas (April 17, 1926-February 19, 2015) Elias passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 19, 2015 at the age of 88.

After graduating from High School in Rio Grande City, TX, Elias joined the Army in 1944.Elias was a Rifleman in Infantry Company C 163rd Infantry 41stDivision. Elias was a decorated soldier who proudly served his country during WWII. Decorations include Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, a Purple Heart, Combat Victory Ribbon, and two Overseas Service Bars.

Elias worked with the U. S. Department of Agriculture as a Field Agent for many years until he retired. Elias enjoyed spending time with family, friends and reminiscing about the old days. Elias especially appreciated spending time with his wife, Oralia. They liked traveling and spending time at the ranch.

Elias is preceded in death by his parents, Genoveva and Faustino Lopez, sister, Delia Lopez and brother, Erasmo Lopez.

Elias is survived by his beloved wife, Oralia Gonzalez Lopez, Rio Grande City, TX, nephew he raised with Oralia, Joe A. Garza, McAllen, TX, son from a previous marriage, Robert (Ana) Lopez, Hillsboro, OH, brothers, Emilio (Dolores) Lopez, El Paso, TX, Jesus (Ana) Lopez, San Antonio, TX, Faustino (Florinda) Lopez, La Casita Ranch, TX, Jose Luis (Zeldaa€ ) Lopez, Houston, TX, sisters, Juanita (Thomasa€ ) Garcia, Garciasville, TX, Azucena (Santos) Salinas, Corpus Christi, TX, grandsons, Robert Victor Lopez & Philip Mathew Lopez, Hillsboro, OH, brother in law, Manuel Lopez, Corpus Christi, TX, sisters in law, Olga Gonzalez Marks, Brownsville, TX, Santa Lopez, La Casita Ranch, TX, and many nieces and nephews. All will dearly miss Elias.

Family and friends are invited to the Viewing from 2:00P.M.-7:00P.M. with a Rosary beginning at 7:30P.M. on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, TX.The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 1:00P.M. at Immaculate Conception Church, 101 East Canales Street, Rio Grande City, TX. The burial will follow at City Cemetery.
