LOS SAENZ / ROMA. Martina Saenz, 88, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Mission Regional Hospital in Mission, Texas. She was born in Los Saenz, Texas on September 12, 1927 to Agapito Saenz and Isabel Garza. At 10 years at age, her widowed father married Andrea Escobar Trevino. After graduating from Rio Grande City High School, she attended and attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Texas A&I University in Kingsville. As an educator, she began her teaching career in the communities of El Sauz and Lopeno. The majority of her 42 year career was spent in Los Saenz, where she taught 2nd grade until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of the Starr County Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers of Texas Association. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of Los Saenz and the Sacred Heart Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother Andrea Saenz, and also by Armando Saenz and Amparo Saenz Benavides, with whom she was raised. Left to cherish her memories are her brother Guillermo M. Trevino (Elva) and Jose Carlos Saenz (Lydia) and her sister Maria Albina Gonzalez (Lucio Eden Sr. t). She is also survived by her nephews Luis A. Trevino (Maureen), Lucio E. Gonzalez Jr (Marta), Omar I. Saenz, Jose M. (Michael) Saenz (Carmina), Luis Eduardo (Eddie)Gonzalez, and Juan Carlos Saenz (Veronica), her nieces Maricela Trevino-Pena, Cynthia L. Gonzalez, and Melissa M. Gonzalez, numerous grand nephews and nieces, and a great-grand niece and nephew.

The family would like to thank her beloved care-giver Romana (Romi) Guillen Mesa, who lovingly cared for and accompanied her for eight years until her death. A special thanks to Irma Garcia, Raquel Montalvo, Minerva Cantu and Maria de los Angeles Martinez Ruiz. The family would also like to thank the health care providers from Taylor Home Health, Dr. Brian Glazer, Dr. Mario Rodriguez and Dr. Raymond Mussett as well as the doctors and nurses from the Mission Regional Medical Center and Starr County Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will begin Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m. Due to unexpected road construction in front of the Los Saenz Church, mass will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Roma. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Roma. Sanchez Memorial Funeral Home of Roma is in charge of arrangements.
