Alma Gloria T. Gonzalez

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, mentor, and friend, Alma Gloria T. Gonzalez, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the age of 91. Born and raised in Rio Grande City, Texas, she remained deeply rooted in the community she loved, where she faithfully served generations of families through her work as an educator and her unwavering commitment to faith, family, and service.

Visitation will be held at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, Texas, with funeral services and mass to follow at Sacred Heart Church Los Garcias in Rio Grande City. Burial will take place at the city cemetery.

Alma Gloria was born in Rio Grande City, Texas, on April 17, 1935, to Arturo O. Trevino Sr. and Oliva R. Trevino. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, where she laid the foundation for a lifelong passion for education and learning.

On September 1, 1958, she married the love of her life, Silvestre Gonzalez. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and service, raising their twin sons, Eduardo and David.

For nearly 40 years, Alma Gloria devoted herself to shaping young minds as a mathematics teacher. Her passion for education, high standards, and commitment to excellence earned her the respect of countless students and colleagues. She served as Head of the Mathematics Department at Rio Grande City High School and was actively involved in student council, NHS, and was an active class sponsor. Over nearly four decades in the classroom, she had the privilege of teaching multiple generations of Rio Grande City families, leaving a lasting impact that extended far beyond mathematics. Former students remember not only the lessons she taught but also the discipline, confidence, and encouragement she instilled in each of them. Beyond the classroom, she was a proud member of the Pan American Round Table and her beloved sorority Beta Sigma Phi, and a member of the Women’s Club where she cultivated lifelong friendships and dedicated herself to serving her community.

Alma Gloria embraced life with elegance, curiosity, and grace. She loved traveling the world, discovering new places, and creating lasting memories while shopping with family and dear friends. She was known for hosting joyful gatherings that brought loved ones together and for her extraordinary generosity, always giving of herself without hesitation. Whether attending a special event or simply running errands, she never left home without looking her very best—a reflection of the pride and dignity with which she lived her life.

A devoted Catholic, Alma Gloria's faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a faithful parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, she found strength and purpose in her relationship with God. Her unwavering faith guided her through every season of life and inspired those who knew her.

Above all, Alma Gloria will be remembered as a woman of remarkable strength, unwavering determination, brilliant intellect, deep faith, and boundless generosity. She was a devoted wife, a proud mother, a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, a respected educator, and a treasured friend. She believed in the power of education, the importance of family, and the value of treating others with kindness and respect. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, both inside and outside the classroom.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Silvestre Gonzalez; her parents, Arturo O. Trevino Sr. and Oliva Trevino; her brother, Arturo Treviño Jr.; and her nephew, Arturo Trevino III.

She is survived by her loving sons, Eduardo Gonzalez and his wife, Veronica, David Gonzalez and his wife, Yadira; her cherished grandchildren, Clarissa Salinas and her husband, Derek; Megan Brown and her husband, Andrew; and Christina Warner and her husband, Jonathan; David Gonzalez Jr. and his wife, Alyssa; Elyse Earl and her husband, Jeffrey; her treasured great-grandchildren, Ryan, Donovan, Emma, and Peter, Diego, Remy, and Emerson; her sister-in-law, Ernestina (Tina); her beloved nieces, Laura, Letty, and Liza; and many extended family members, former students, colleagues, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by her love.

Though she will be deeply missed, we rejoice in knowing that Alma Gloria is home with the Lord. Her love, wisdom, and enduring example will continue to guide her family for generations to come.

Her name, Alma Gloria—meaning "glorious soul"—was not merely the name she was given, but the life she chose to live. Through her unwavering faith, generous heart, brilliant mind, and steadfast love for her family and community, she embodied the meaning of her name each and every day. Though her earthly journey has come to an end, her glorious soul will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, former students, and all who were blessed to know and love her.
