Ana Maria B. de la Garza, 87, went to be with our Lord, March 7, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Ana Maria, also known as "Grandma" to many, was born on October 18, 1929 to Gabriel and Nemesia Arce Benavides in Roma. She resided in Roma all of her life. She was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and an excellent cook. She worked for Roma ISD for many years as a teacher's aide, substitute teacher, a head start teacher, and was an AVON Representative for 40 years. Ana Maria was a devout Catholic and attended Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church. She was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Roma VFW Post 9175. She was also a breast cancer survivor.
Ana Maria married Guillermo "Willito" de la Garza on August 19, 1956. They were happily married for 44 years before his death on January 19, 2001. She is survived by her nine children: sons, Guillermo Antonio (Sandra) de la Garza and Gerardo Humberto "Jerry" de la Garza; daughters, Maria Teresa (a€ Mike) Garza, Martina Diana (Juan Manuel) Guerra, Rosa Maria (Gerardo) Silva, Maria Eugenia (a€ Oscar) Ramos, Guadalupe Ana (Enrique) Cantu, Laura Elena (Eloy) Salinas, and Martha Elizabeth de la Garza. She is survived by 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ana Maria was preceded in death by her husband Willito de la Garza; son's-in-law Mike R. Garza and Oscar J. Ramos, Jr.; her parents, Gabriel and Nemesia Benavides; her brothers, Gabriel A., Pascual O., Jesus T., Eugenio and Raymundo Guzman; her sisters, Cristina M. Recio, Estefana Lopez, Nemesia M. Garcia, and Bertha E. Barrera.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her providers, Marbella Rios and Norma Moran, Starr Home Health, Prestige Home Health, Only Love Hospice, Dr. Raymond Mussett, and Mrs. Sonia Mussett. Grandma will be greatly missed by her family and all of those who knew her.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 8, 2017, from 10 am to 9 pm at Sanchez Memorial Funeral Home in Roma, TX. Rosary will be at 7 pm. Funeral mass will be at 3 pm on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, following burial at Roma Cemetery.
