IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anastacio
Alaniz
May 2, 1939 – February 10, 2026
Anastacio Alaniz
May 2, 1939 – February 10, 2026
It is difficult to sum up in a few words the arc of a life well lived, but Anastacio (Tacho) Alaniz lived one defined by service, conviction, and love.
Born on May 2, 1939, Anastacio belonged to a generation shaped by duty and resilience. He carried those values throughout his life as a dedicated civil servant and proud American. He was an American hero who served in the United States Army and later worked for many years as a Tax Assessor-Collector at Roma ISD, faithfully serving his community with integrity and commitment.
Beyond his professional life, he was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Family was his anchor. His love was steady, dependable, and strong.
He loved politics and a good debate, never shying away from spirited conversation. A proud Roma Gladiator fan through and through. He enjoyed cheering on his teams and following sports closely. He also found comfort in the simple pleasure of a classic television western, a daily ritual that reflected his appreciation for stories of grit, honor, and principle.
He is survived by his children, Diana Salinas (Cliff), Annette Garza, and Anastacio Alaniz Jr.; their mother Magdalena Forey Alaniz; along with his 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who carry forward his name, his lessons, and his legacy. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Janie Guerra (Jesus) and Maria Garcia, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter (Maggie), his parents (Amelia and Juan Alaniz), and his siblings (Elva, Pedro, and Elizabeth).
Though his passing on February 10, 2026, leaves a profound absence, his legacy lives on in the generations he shaped and in the values he instilled. He will be remembered with pride. He will be missed beyond measure. He will be loved always.
He will be laid to rest with Military Honors on Saturday, February 14, 2026, by the veterans of American Legion Post 382 and Texas VFW Post 8526 at Starr County Memorial Cemetery in Roma, Texas.
