Arturo Oscar Trevino III

July 15, 1974 — December 13, 2022

Rio Grande City

Arturo O. Trevino III, 48, of Rio Grande City passed away on December 13, 2022, at Doctors Hospital Renaissance, Edinburg, Texas. Art was born on July 15, 1974, to Arturo O. Trevino, Jr. and Ernestina C. Trevino in McAllen, Texas. After graduating from Rio Grande City High School in 1992, he went on to study at Pan American University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. In August of 1999, he began his career as an educator with the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District at
Ringgold Middle School where he served as Athletic Coordinator 23 years. He married his wife of 23 years, Lorena Trevino and together they raised two sons, Sergio Arturo and Miguel Arturo. Art loved and protected his family fiercely, but he dedicated his time to his athletes, his ranch, and his friends..

Arturo was a simple man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Although he looked and sounded intimidating, he was a gentle soul whose kindness was transparent. He truly welcomed company at his home and quite often hosted a bar-b-que where music and laughter resonated. He had a close relationship with his nephews and niece, and they lovingly referred to him as “Uncle Turi”. His sense of humor was infectious and will never be forgotten.

As a coach he served as a role model for his players and instilled in them the value of discipline, commitment, and team work. His competitive spirit led to several district championships throughout his career and his motto was, “if you’re not first, you’re last.” One of his athletes said it best, “Coach Art, you strengthened our spirits, you turned us into young men, you’ve led us throughout the lowest times in life, you lit the fuse in our minds that empowered us to become a better version of ourselves.”

Arturo was preceded in death by his father, Arturo O. Trevino, Jr. He is survived by his mother, Ernestina C. Trevino, and his sisters, Laura (Roy) Lopez, Leticia Trevino (Roel Garza), and Tina (Bracy) Wilson. He is also survived by his nine nephews and niece.

The Trevino family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and visits. We are grateful for the love and support that has been expressed during this difficult time.
