RIO GRANDE CITY - Daniel "Danny" Carrera, 53, died Monday, July 29, 2013 at McAllen Medical Center Hospital in McAllen, Texas. Sanchez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City will be in charge of his funeral arrangements.

(Rio Grande City). Daniel O. "Danny" Carrera, 53, passed away following a brief illness on July 29, 2013 - on what would have been his mother's birthday. Daniel obtained his BBA degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He was a rancher from a well-established Starr County family that has raised livestock for several generations. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Eladio Carrera and Ines Guerra Carrera. He is survived by his siblings, Eladio S. Carrera, Victor M. Carrera, Minerva E. Carrera, and Gloria I. Carrera, and by his nieces and nephews, Aaron V. Lammers, Carlos R. Lammers, Monique M. Carrera, Olivia C. Lammers, Alexandro J. Carrera, Marisa G. Carrera, Marielle E. Carrera, Cristian X. Carrera, and Isaac S. Carrera. Daniel was well known in Rio Grande City as a personable, loving and generous man who always had a kind word for everyone he encountered. He frequently helped out those in less fortunate circumstances, and often came bearing gifts for his many friends and family members. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a hearty laugh, and was -- according to his nieces and nephews -- their "coolest" uncle. He will be missed by all who knew him. Public viewing is scheduled today, Friday, August 2, 2013, from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City. Recitation of the rosary is scheduled at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass is scheduled on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at 10:00 A.M., at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City, followed by the final disposition of his remains in a private family ceremony.
