RIO GRANDE CITY/LA PUERTA- Diana Perez-Hernandez, 61, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, December 18, 2021. Diana was born on August 19, 1960, in Rio Grande City, Texas. She was the eldest daughter of four born to Lino Perez (+) and Adelina G. Perez (+) of La Puerta Ranch.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Gustavo Jose Hernandez. Diana is also survived by her daughters, Melissa Yvonne (Nicolas) Hernandez-Escobedo, Marissa Yvette Hernandez, Monica Yleana Hernandez, her son Gustavo Jose Hernandez III “Sargie”, and her sister Dalinda (Gustavo +) Escobar, all of Rio Grande City. Other survivors include 9 nephews and nieces, and several great nephews and nieces, including her favorite great niece, Ayanna Lee Andrade. Diana is proceeded in death by her parents, Lino and Adelina Perez, and her sisters, Doralva Perez and Dalia Salinas.
Diana attended Rio Grande City High School. From a young age, she was a hard worker. The majority of her summers were spent working out on the fields. She spoke proudly about her days working out in the migrant farms alongside her family. Diana was a devoted mother and had an immense love for her family. She worked for the school district and then for the Head Start Program, however, she left her job to take on a new role at home. Diana was an amazing housewife. She dedicated her time to caring for her children and ensuring that they had everything they needed. Diana then became employed by Rio Grande City CISD, where she completed 26+ years of service. She officially retired June of 2021. When she wasn’t working, Diana enjoyed being surrounded by family at home; her comfort zone. She enjoyed cooking for her family, dances with her husband, listening to music, and visits and phone calls from family and friends. Diana was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and Godmother. A great friend… a woman with a big heart! She will be remembered for her compassion, love for kids, and beautiful smile that could light up any room. She will be greatly missed by all.
