Gloria G. Chapa

May 2, 1937 — Jul 6, 2026

In Loving Memory of Gloria G. Chapa

Gloria G. Chapa, 89, of Falcon Heights, Texas, entered into eternal rest on July 6, 2026, in Rio Grande City, Texas. She was born on May 2, 1937, in Chapeno, Texas, to Saturnino and Juana Garcia.

Gloria was preceded in death by the love of her life and beloved husband of 60 years, Manuel Luis "Pato" Chapa Sr., who passed away in 2015. They were united in marriage on July 2, 1955, and together built a life centered on faith, family, and service. She is lovingly survived by her children: Manuel Luis Chapa (Regina), Esther Villarreal (Mike), Omar Chapa, and Orlando A. Chapa (Irma). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Tiffany, Trey, Amanda, Mikey, Priscilla, Tracy, Aldo, and Ira. Her family continued to grow through her fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immeasurable joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Saturnino and Juana Garcia; her siblings, Maria Elva Flores, Efrain Garcia, Flavio Garcia, Jose Roberto Garcia, Noe Garcia, and Yolanda Cantu. She is survived by her sister, Rosabel Hinojosa, and her brother, Israel Garcia.

Raised in Falcon Heights, Texas, Gloria spent part of her childhood traveling with her family to Arizona, where they worked in the fields. It was there that she met the young man who would become the love of her life, Manuel Luis "Pato" Chapa. After their marriage, they made their home in Falcon, where they raised their family. Although they spent a short time living in California, they returned to Falcon Heights—the place where their hearts had always remained.

Gloria was a woman of quiet strength. She was never one for many words, but her kindness, compassion, and unwavering work ethic spoke for her. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family, devoted herself to raising her children, and later helped raise many of her grandchildren. Her love was expressed not through grand gestures, but through her constant presence, gentle spirit, and selfless care for everyone around her.

To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as "Guela UU," and to her great-grandchildren, she was simply "Guela Grandma." She was the heart of her family—a source of unconditional love, comfort, and security. Some of the family's most treasured memories were made around her table, enjoying her homemade tortillas, the beans she always made with love, and the tamales she lovingly prepared during the winter months. Those meals were more than food—they were her way of bringing everyone together and showing her love.

Whether opening her home, sharing a meal, or simply offering her quiet presence, Gloria made everyone feel welcome and cared for. Through her gentle example, she taught the importance of faith, family, hard work, humility, and kindness. While she rarely sought recognition, Gloria's greatest accomplishment was the family she lovingly nurtured. Her greatest joy was seeing her family together, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are a living reflection of the love, faith, and devotion she poured into every generation.

Alongside her husband, Gloria faithfully supported the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where they volunteered for many years in honor of his military service. Their faith was the foundation of their lives, and together they were devoted members of Holy Trinity Church in Falcon Heights, Texas.

Gloria's greatest legacy is not measured by the years she lived, but by the home she created and the love she shared so freely with her family and community. Through every homemade tortilla, every pot of beans, every batch of tamales prepared during the winter, every quiet sacrifice, and every act of kindness, she built a home filled with warmth, faith, and unconditional love. Though Guela UU and Guela Grandma will be deeply missed, the values she instilled, the traditions she passed down, and the love she gave will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
