Guadalupe Matias Castaneda Jr

Guadalupe Matias Castañeda Jr., 86, entered eternal rest and resides in the house of the Lord, Monday, November 27, 2017, in McAllen surrounded by his family. He was born on March 20, 1931, in Rio Grande City living all his life in the home he built for his family. He is a veteran in U.S. Army, stationed in Panama as a corporal radar operator. He gained a degree from the University of Pan American and received his Master's in Education at A&M Corpus. He had a successful career working 45 years in the RGC ISD in mathematics, woodworking and general mechanics. He continued Social work as a visiting teacher before retiring in his career. He was a devoted Catholic, a first-degree knight in Knights of Columbus and served his local church and community. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe M. Castaneda, Bertha Lopez Castañeda, and sisters, Adelaida Castañda and Celia M. Salazar. Mr. Castañeda is survived by his wife, Alicia Peña Castañeda; his daughter, Maria Gilda Castañeda Saenz; grandchildren, Juli Ann Saenz Lopez(Ramiro Lopez), David Michael Saenz; and great-granddaughter, Lucia Lopez. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 9 pm with a 7 pm Rosary conducted by K of C knights, Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Sanchez Funeral Home 301 E. 2nd st, Rio Grande City, TX. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Friday, December 1, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City, TX.
