It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Guadalupe Duran III, known to many as “Lupe” or “Lupito.” Many will remember him as the quarterback who led his football team to the Bi-District Championship of 1984 – his #15 will be remembered forever. He embodied the spirit of a Mighty Rattler, bleeding red for his team on and off the field.
He had a true love for sports – football, baseball and basketball. All a big part of his life. He is now reunited in heaven with his beloved father Guadalup Duran Jr. and mother Maria Guadalupe Garcia Duran. He is survived by his sisters’ Lori (Victor) Valdez, Delma Duran and Cristina (Alberto “Tana”) Cruz.
Lupe was a proud and loving father to his children – Matthew Stephen Duran, Kasey Marie Duran and Miles Alexander Duran. His presence in our lives was a blessing, and his absence will be deeply felt. Those who knew him will never forget his passion for life, his love for family and the laughter he brought wherever he went. His legacy will live on through his children, his family and everyone whose lives he touched.
Rio Grande City – Guadalupe Duran III, age 59, passed away peacefully at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, TX.
