Guadalupe M. Peña from Rio Grande City passed away peacefully at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home on May 3, 2021, at the age of 83. He was born on November 2, 1937, in Hebbronville, Texas. Guadalupe graduated from Hebbronville High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Libya. After his service to his country, he achieved a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Texas A & I University in Kingsville and a master’s degree from Pan American University. He also earned mid-management and superintendent certifications. Guadalupe worked as an educator in Rio Grande City CISD for over 35 years.
Guadalupe is survived by his wife of 52 years Diana Andrade Peña and by his daughter Dr. Deanna Peña Garcia (Gilbert), and two sons Guadalupe Jr. (Tanya) Peña, Ernesto Omar (Denyse) Peña. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Andrew Garcia (Melissa), Daniel Thomas, Benjamin, and Julianna Garcia; Hunter Danielle, and Kamryn Peña; Abbylyn, and Jonathan Peña. Guadalupe is survived by his brother, Roldan Peña from Kingsville, his sister-in-law Marcela Peña from San Antonio, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Guadalupe was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a faithful, devout Catholic and a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was also a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. Guadalupe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and visiting state parks. He will always be remembered as a caring loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply
missed by his family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City from 3 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, from 8 to 9:45 a.m. The funeral mass will follow at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City. Burial will follow at the City Cemetery.
