ISRAEL I. RODRIGUEZ
ROMA a€" Israel I. Rodriguez entered into eternal rest at the age of 75 on August 14, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at his home in Alta Vista/Roma, TX, at the time of his death. He was born on July 17, 1937 in El Sauz, Texas.
Shortly after graduating from Roma High School, Israel joined the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge, he began working for the United States Government. He started his career with the Small Business Administration then transferred to the United States Customs Service, where he retired after 35 years.
His love for his family, ranching and community involvement always kept him busy. Israel was an active member of Sacred Heart Church Parish and The Knights of Columbus in Escobares, Texas. He served on numerous boards which included the Advisory board for Medina Electric Coop; El Sauz Water Board; Treasurer for the Knights of Columbus ; and the Roma Independent School District Board for several years. While serving on these boards, he strongly believed in protecting the community first and consistently stressed that one should not look for personal gain when holding elected community positions.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bruno and Cristina Rodriguez, his brother Roberto Rodriguez and his sister Elma Rodriguez.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Herlinda Soza Rodriguez; his children Melba Rodriguez, Christine Rodriguez and Orlando (Valerie) Rodriguez; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He also survived by his half-brothers Oscar Perez and Rene Perez; his sisters Frances Ortega and Julia Salinas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Sanchez Funeral Home in Roma, Texas on August 15, 2012 from 11am to 9pm. Funeral Mass will be at Sacred Heart Church in Escobares, Texas, at 4pm. followed by burial at El Sauz Cemetary on August 16, 2012.
