Joel Alvarez

Rio Grande City – Joel Alvarez 78, went peacefully with the Lord surrounded by his
family, on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, Edinburg,
Texas.
He was born on November 7, 1943, to Eligio Alvarez and Natividad Garza Alvarez in
Remolino, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jesus Alvarez, and his sister, Nora Alvarez Garcia.
Surviving him are his nieces and nephews Maria Albesa Alvarez Hinojosa (spouse Daniel
Hinojosa) and their children Steven Pena (spouse Raquel Reyes) their children, Sabrina
Pena, Serena Pena, Stephanie Pena Alanis (Juan Angel Alanis Jr.) and their children Jesus Angel Alanis, and Sophia Lydia Alanis. His niece Maria Esmeralda Alvarez Garza (spouse Abel Garza) and their children Abel Garza Jr. and Emily Marie Garza. His niece Aleida Alvarez (Spouse Jorge A. Alvidrez ) and their children Kristina Camacho (Spouse Javier Camacho) and their children Melanie Camacho, Javier Camacho Jr. , and Anthony
Camacho, Elijah Hinojosa and Audrey Hinojosa. His niece Jessica Alvarez Escobar
(Heron Escobar) and their children Mariah Escobar, Michael Escobar, Mason Escobar,
his nephew Eligio (spouse Monica Chavez Alvarez) and their children Gabriela Alvarez,
and T’Zuriel Alvarez, his nephew Jesus Alvarez Jr. (spouse Marisol Santos) and their
children Lilly Rose Alvarez, and Layla Isabella Alvarez. Joel attended Roma High School
and was a trucker and farmer for most of his life.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Doctors Hospital of
Renaissance Pallbearers will be: Eligio Alvarez, Jesus Alvarez Jr, Daniel Hinojosa, Abel
Garza, Jorge Alvidrez, and Steven Pena.
Visitation will start Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 1:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., with a
recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 P.M. Visitation will continue Wednesday, from 8:00
A.M. – 10:30 A.M. Funeral Mass will be at the Sacred Heart Church in Escobares Church
on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021, at 11 A.M. in Escobares , TX. Interment will follow at
Los Barrera’s Cemetery. Sanchez Funeral Home, in Rio Grande City, is in charge of the
funeral arrangements.
