Jose Roberto Garcia went to eternal rest on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the age of 72 surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his infant son Joel Garcia, parents Waldo and Aurora Garcia and his in-laws Guadalupe and America Guerra.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, America Garcia, his son Jose Roberto Garcia, Jr (Anna Lee) from Roma, his daughter Rebecca (Jackie) Ramirez from Rio Grande City, his precious grandchildren Roberto Luis Garcia, John William, James Michael and Kaitlyn Marie Ramirez, and his brother Arturo B. Garcia from Fort Worth, Texas.

Jose Roberto was born in Benavides, Texas on August 23, 1942. He attended school in Benavides, Texas where he graduated in 1961. Upon graduation, he attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas where he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Science and Biology in 1965. He then began his teaching career at the Roma Independent School District where numerous students still praise him for his excellent teaching abilities. From 1975-1978, he was assigned part-time Assistant Principal at Roma High School. During this time of his career, he continued working towards his Master's Degree in Educational Administration and was named Roma High School Principal from 1978 to 1981. It was then when he applied and was given the position as Curriculum Director from 1981 to 1986. Having worked for Roma ISD for 21 years, he then applied and was given the position of Business Manager and continued as Deputy Superintendent until his retirement in 1995.

Jose Roberto was a member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Roma, Texas where he served as Lector during mass, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Fourth Degree Knight, was a member of El Cid Caravan 106 of the International Order of Alhambra, a catholic fraternal organization, was a member of the Lions Club and served in various elected offices. Jose Roberto wanting to serve his community, was elected as a City of Roma Commissioner and served for 2 terms.

The family would like to sincerely and gratefully thank Dr. Mario Rodriguez, Dr. Noel Oliveira, Dr. Pedro Arrazola, Starr County Memorial Hospital and Staff, With Open Arms Healthcare nurses, Retama Manor Nursing Home, Trans Star EMS, and his caregivers Miguel Garcia, Juan Ramirez and Sandra Ramirez for the wonderful care provided to our loved one.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at 11:00am, Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Roma, Texas. Interment will be at Saint John's Cemetery in Rio Grande City, Texas. Pallbearers will be Jorge Luis Ramirez, Martin A. Canales, III, Omar Canales, Mario Luis Guerra, Jr, Javier A. Flores, and Lucio Eden Gonzalez, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mario Luis Guerra, Sr, Martin A. Canales, Jr, Jorge Ramirez, Eleuterio Garza, Lino Perez, III and Baldemar Chapa.

Funeral services are under the direction of Sanchez Memorial Funeral Home of Roma, Texas.
