Juan Jose "Johnny" Olivarez

Juan Jose “Johnny” Olivarez (68) of Mission was called to Heaven on October 23, 2018.  Johnny was born on August 21, 1950.  He graduated from Rio Grande City High School and Texas A&I University.  He worked for the Harris County Community Supervision & Corrections Department as a probation officer and a surveillance probation officer. Johnny then worked for the Hidalgo County Community Supervision & Corrections Department as a supervisor and a court liaison. His service for Hidalgo County spanned from 1988-2006. Johnny was an avid golfer, political enthusiast, and loved helping others.

 He is preceded in death by his father Juan Olivarez.  Johnny is survived by his wife, Renee Olivarez, 2 daughters, Jacquelyn Olivarez and Jennifer Olivarez, 4 children from his previous marriage to Linda Miller Olivarez,  Juan Jose “J.J.”(Sandy) Olivarez Jr., Judy (Juan) Olivarez, Javier Olivarez, Jessica (Cleofas) Gutierrez, 6 grandchildren,  and his mother Elvia M. Olivarez. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m.  Funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mission.  Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mission, TX.
