Obit of Leonel L. Pena
Leonel L. Pena was called home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2016. He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 5, 1929 at Los Arrieros, Texas. He was the proud son of Loreto and Santitos Pena, a Pioneer Family of Roma Texas. He was a graduate of Rio Grande City High School, served with the U.S. Army and graduated from Texas A&I University with a Bachelors in Business Administration.
Leonel came back to Starr County and became an educator at Rio Grande City CISD for 38 years. At the same time he loved to manage the ranch for his family.
Leonel is preceded in death by his sisters Socorro Ramirez, Mary Pena, Sofia Garcia, Felipita Escobar and Raquel Vela.
Leonel is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Angelina C. Pena, three children, Jose Jerardo Pena (Maria Elena) from Weslaco Texas, Patricia Vos from Rio Grande City, Texas, and Gustavo Pena (Stina) from Bainbridge Island Washington, one sister, Gloria Flores from Zapata, Texas and one brother, Margarito Pena (Leticia) from Edinburg, Texas. His grandchildren are Aaron Pena, Andres Pena, +Sophie Vos, Diego Vos, Agnes Pena and Victor Pena.
A heartfelt thank you to Eva Ortiz for the endless hours helping our family care for Leonel in these past months.
Visitation will begin on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 2:00pm - 9:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, February 01, 2016 at 10:00am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rio Grande City, Texas. Burial will follow at St John's Cemetery. Sanchez Funeral Home will be in charge of his funeral arrangements
