In Loving Memory of Manuela Cantu Rios
Manuela Cantu Rios was born in Congregacion Cantu, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on November 16, 1939. She was 83 years old. She passed away on May 31, 2023. Manuelita, as most of us knew her by, was married to Jesus Rios and they had 6 children: Maria Guadalupe Rios, Maricela Rios, Maria De Jesus Rios, Eduardo Rios, Omar Rios, and Jesus Rios Jr. During her early 20’s, she was a devoted wife and mother dedicating herself to raising her family. In 1969, she moved to the United States and made a home in the small town of Roma, Texas. At the age of 41 Manuela sadly became a widow. She loved her husband so much, ultimately never remarrying. However, no tragedy or hardship was ever impossible for Manuelita. She found a job and raised six children all on her own. Those children later became her greatest achievements. She loved her family more than words could describe. If you asked her what she was most proud of she would respond with, “Mis hijos”. Each one of her children created their own successes and grandchildren after them. Manuela Cantu Rios created a LEGACY.
The thing about Manuela was that she was the most strong minded woman you could ever meet. If you ever felt tired, she would respond with, “Cansada de que? Levantate y echale ganas” Her personality was best described as fearless, spicy, witty, strict but most of all, loving. She was known as the Reyna of the family. She was a woman of many talents but if you asked anyone they would say her greatest talent was cooking! Her recipes will live forever and be passed down from generation to generation. Manuelitas top dishes were, caldo de pollo o res, menudo, carne guisada, mole, and most importantly tamales. One of her favorite dishes was cabrito. Her favorite thing to do was host Christmas and Thanksgiving at her home. Thoseholidays were the most important to her because it was when she gathered our whole beautiful family created by her. Six children, 16 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
If Manuelita would ask how she would like to be remembered she would say this, “Caminando, nadando, y conociendo el mundo” She loved to travel and loved being an independent woman. She never wanted help from anyone; she could do it all! She was so smart, GREAT at math. She might have never gotten a fancy degree but it was because of her that she allowed her children and grandchildren to be able to follow their dreams and do whatever their hearts desired. Every sacrifice she made was so her family could live the best possible life ever.
Manuelita Cantu Rios will be remembered as a legend as a STRONG, BEAUTIFUL, FEARLESS, WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER AND WOMAN.

FUERTE, HERMOSA, AUDAZ, ESPOSA, MADRE, ABUELA Y BISABUELA.
