RIO GRANDE CITY - Margarita Garcia, 84, died Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Starr Co. Memorial Hospital in Rio Grande City, TX. Sanchez Funeral Home will be in charge of her funeral arrangements.

Margarita Carrera Garcia, age 84, a lifelong resident of Rio Grande City passed away at Starr County Memorial Hospital on July 17, 2016.
Margarita was born on October 20, 1931 in Rio Grande City to Odilon Carrera Jr. and Gregoria Pena of Rio Grande City. She was a 1950 graduate of Rio Grande City High School. Margarita was a faithful Catholic.
On April 25, 1954, she married her true love Jose Leon Garcia of La Grulla, Texas. The couple settled in Rio Grande City and welcomed four children into their home.
Margarita was instrumental in helping her husband build a successful 37-year career as an independent Borden Inc. distributor in the western Rio Grande Valley. She was an exceptional bookkeeper for their business until retirement in 1997.
Margarita was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and blessed with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Margarita loved holidays and family get-togethers. Any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She and Jose would spend hours preparing in the kitchen for their family company. Margarita will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her.
Margarita is survived by her husband, Jose Leon Garcia and her children, Jose Leon Garcia Jr. (Marty); Sylvia Diana Lopez, Ernesto Luis Garcia (Nannette); Elda Margarita Lopez (Romeo); her siblings, Roberto Carrera (Florence +) of New Jersey; Odilon (Tomasita) Carrera III of Rio Grande City; Rubiola (William) Coddington of McAllen, and Ernestina Saenz (Elias +) of Rio Grande City.
She is preceded in death by her parents Odilon Carrera Jr. and Gregoria Pena Carrera of Rio Grande City; a brother Roberto Carrera; and a granddaughter, Melinda Lopez.
Family and friends will gather at Immaculate Conception Church for a funeral mass at 9 a.m. Today, Tuesday, July 19. Interment will follow at the Rio Grande City Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Margarita's life.
