Maria del Rosario Gray (née Gonzalez)
Maria del Rosario Gray, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devout Catholic, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026. She was 78 years old. Born on March 10, 1948, in Laredo, Texas, she grew up in Rio Grande City, Texas, where she developed the strong values, work ethic, and faith that defined her life.
Maria was the cherished daughter of Amado and Lilia Gonzalez (née Flores), both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of many years, Ronald Gray; her brother, Geronimo Gonzalez; and her sister, Frances Henry (née Gonzalez).
A dedicated accountant, Maria worked tirelessly throughout her career to provide every possible advantage for her family. She placed the highest importance on education and sacrifice, ensuring her children and grandchildren had opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed. Her deep Catholic faith guided her daily life, bringing her comfort, strength, and a profound sense of purpose. She found joy in her family, her prayers, and the quiet satisfaction of a life lived with love and responsibility.
She is survived by her sons:
• David Gray and his wife Emily, and their children Lily, Elijah, and Adam.
• Christopher Henry and his wife Jeannine, and their children Apollo and Phoenix.
Visitation and Services
A Rosary will be recited on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. that evening.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City, Texas. A short graveside service will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
Maria’s legacy lives on through her family, whom she loved deeply and for whom she gave so much. Her unwavering devotion to education, her Catholic faith, and her quiet strength will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Maria’s memory to a Catholic charity or education fund of your choice.
May she rest in eternal peace in the loving arms of our Lord.
