Maria Celia Lopez, 89 years old, entered into eternal rest on March 19, 2018 at her home in Rio Grande City surrounded by her loving children, her son Daniel Roy Lopez (Toni Rivera), Diana (DD Saldana), Dalinda (Hugo Canales), Delia (Luis Manuel Cruz), her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Maria Celia was born on November 06, 1928 in Rio Grande City to Mateo & Hortencia H. Saenz. She graduated from Rio Grande City High School in 1945 and at the age of 16 received her license to become a hairdresser, which was her lifelong passion. For 22 years she owned and operated, The Co-ed Beauty Shop. In 1970, her husband Lauro L. Lopez opened Triple L Furniture and Appliance. It was at this time that she closed up shop and went to join him as the office manager of their new business. In 2005 they both decided to close the store and retire. Maria Celia was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church. and was actively involved in her children’s education as a PTA member of the Immaculate Conception School where she worked tirelessly in many ICS projects in support of her children’s education. She was actively involved in several civic and social organizations. Her favorites were The Sewing Club, The Alhambra, and the Mr. & Mrs. Club. Maria Celia & her husband traveled throughout the United States and the world. She enjoyed socializing, dancing and entertaining with her many friends. Maria Celia lived life to its fullest and will be dearly missed by all who loved and knew her. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Lauro L. Lopez, her brothers, Arturo, Hector, Armando & Beto Saenz, her son David Lauro and her grandson Daniel Roy Lopez Jr. Visitation will start on Friday, March 23rd at Sanchez Funeral Home from 2:00-9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 24th at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, interment will follow at the Rio Grande City Cemetery.
