Minerva L. Lopez, a cherished presence in the lives of many and a pillar of love and compassion, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, at her residence in Rio Grande City. Born on November 15, 1941, in Mission, Texas, Minerva lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her community, and her faith.
Minerva’s career was a true reflection of her nurturing spirit. She worked in a doctor's clinic, where she dedicated herself to helping families navigate their health journeys with kindness and care. Those who knew her also remember Minerva for her warmth and the unwavering support she gave to her loved ones. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend—a title she embraced with grace and humility.
Family was at the heart of Minerva’s world. She treasured moments spent with her husband, Horacio G. Lopez, whom she loved deeply throughout their years together. Her loving daughter, Cecilia L. (Ovidio) Salinas, remains a testament to Minerva's enduring influence and affection. She found immense joy in the company of her grandchildren—Crystal (Miguel) Hernandez, Ovidio (Stephanie) Salinas Jr., and Oscar H. Salinas—and her great-grandchildren, Miguel A. Hernandez Jr. and Melina A. Hernandez. Their laughter, stories, and shared time were among her greatest pleasures.
Minerva’s siblings, Norma Villarreal, Melchor Longoria Jr., Paula LaMotte, and Ruben Longoria, survive her, keeping close the memories and bonds forged over a lifetime. Though Minerva’s parents, Melchor Longoria and Santos Rodriguez Longoria, and her brothers, Israel Longoria and Elijio Longoria, have preceded her in death, their legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Beyond her family, Minerva loved spending time with friends and attending church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and providing solace and strength. Her passion for community and fellowship was evident every time she gathered with those she held dear.
Those wishing to honor Minerva’s memory are invited to attend several services in Rio Grande City. Visitation will take place on June 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Sanchez Funeral Home, located at 301 East Second St. The celebration of her life will follow at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1800 Live Oak Avenue, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Later that afternoon, a burial service will be held at El Arroyo Cemetery, 80 Los Velas Rd., at 3:15 p.m.
Minerva L. Lopez leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family that will forever be treasured. She was a woman who loved deeply and gave generously, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her presence was a gift, and though she is no longer with us, the light she brought into our lives will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
