Rio Grande City

Norma Lee Miller Garza, 70, passed away Friday, September 15,2023 at home surrounded by her family and loved ones in Rio Grande City. She was born June 12, 1953 and is the daughter of the late Earvil and Zulema Miller.

Norma grew up in Rio Grande City and was a 1972 graduate of Rio Grande City High School. She graduated as Salutatorian of the first class of the Starr County School of Vocational Nursing in 1981. Her and her best friend, Linda Lopez, were memorialized in the Starr County Hospital as the first graduating class of nurses until the recent remodel.

She later worked at R.G.C.C.I.S.D. as an elementary and junior high nurse. She also worked at Retama Manor, APC, and Starr Home Health. She spent her life dedicated to serving others in the health care industry, enjoying family time at her San Jose Ranch, and attending her grandchildren’s various activities.

Norma was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend who will be greatly and deeply missed.

She is survived by her three children, Sandra Salinas (Edward III), Mary Ann Gonzalez (Dennis), and Juan Roel Garza Jr.; ten grandchildren, Roman Salinas (Ayla), Sabrina Lee Salinas, Hailey Salinas, Daniel Gonzalez (Marlene), Dana Gonzalez, Dennis Gonzalez Jr., Jessie Morin, Jacob Garza, Joshua Garza, Justice Garza and her great-grandchildren Hazel Salinas, Jade Salinas, Maddison Gonzalez, and a great grandson on the way.

Visitation will be held at Sanchez Funeral Home on Monday, September 18, 2023, from 1p.m. to 8p.m., with a 6p.m. Rosary, and will continue Tuesday, September 19,2023 from 8a.m. to 9:30a.m. Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City. Interment will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery.
