Olga Saenz

Olga Omelia Saenz, age 90, of Rio Grande City, Texas, passed away Wednesday noon, on September 17, 2025, at her residence. She was born on January 10, 1935, in Garciasville, Texas, daughter of the late Fidelio and Dora Guerra.

Olga grew up in Garciasville, Texas, and graduated from Pan American University with a degree in Education. She met her husband, Ruben Saenz, while working at San Isidro, and they married on May 29, 1960, in the Garciasville Mennonite Church; they have lived in Rio Grande City since then.

Olga was a member of the First United Methodist Church, now Rio First Church, a retired educator, and homemaker. She cherished her husband dearly, her sons and their wives, and the seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren who brought her smiles and laughter and a warm spirit to her soul. Olga had a passion for doing God’s work, serving others, and bringing joy and laughter to those she encountered. She joined church committees and the women’s church gatherings to help both her church and community, alike. Olga loved cooking and baking, and she welcomed trips abroad and at home. She recorded cherished moments from her travels in the one hundred twenty-two albums she created. She was most blessed by the 65 wonderful years of life that she shared with her husband, Ruben.

Olga was preceded in death by her parents, Fidelio and Dora; and her sisters Nelda Garza and Dora Elfida Montalvo.

She is survived by her husband, Ruben Saenz; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Bishop Reverend Ruben Saenz, Jr. (Maye) and Ricardo Saenz (Ofie); several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one sister, Isabel Jones of Rio Grande City, Texas; and one brother, Fidelio Guerra of San Antonio, Texas. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

The viewing will take place from 1:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. followed by the Prayer Service at 6:30 P.M. Friday, September 19, 2025, at Sanchez Funeral Home. On Saturday, September 20, 2025, final viewing will be from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. with the Celebration of Life at 10:00 A.M. at Sanchez Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Rio Grande City, Texas.
