Mission, Texas – Ramon Corona Jr., 70, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
Born on August 30, 1955, in Los Garcias, Texas, Ramon lived a life defined by service, devotion, and deep love for his family and community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Corona and Alicia R. Corona. Ramon is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Maria Victoria Corona-Guerra, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, faith, and cherished memories. He leaves behind his children: Abram (Michelle) Corona, Laura (Tommy) Velasquez, and Veronica (Juan Francisco) Anzaldua.
He was a proud and loving grandfather to Zoe Seferina, Ava Alicia, and Joaquin Corona; Luke and Ella Rose Velasquez; Iyla Luz, Camila Elise, and Evan Diego Anzaldua, each of whom brought immense joy and fulfillment to his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Policarpio, Hector, and Ricardo Corona, and his sisters, Leonor Corona Mireles and Maria Nela Gallardo, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
Ramon dedicated 30 years of honorable service to the City of McAllen Fire Department, retiring as a lieutenant. His career was marked not only by bravery and commitment but also by leadership and advocacy. He played a key role in advancing the department by working tirelessly to secure collective bargaining rights and improve pension benefits for his fellow firefighters. His legacy within the department remains one of courage, integrity, and lasting impact.
Beyond his service, Ramon continued to give back to his community as a substitute teacher for McAllen ISD and as a delivery operator for Hewlett-White Floral Designs. He was a man who believed in hard work, service, and staying connected to those around him.
Ramon found great peace and joy in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who took pride in working on his ranch in Starr County. Above all, his greatest happiness came from time spent with his family-especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
He will be remembered for his warm sense of humor, kindness, and compassion for others. Ramon had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and loved. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted Catholic and a faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission, Texas.
