Raul M. Hinojosa

Raul M. Hinojosa transitioned to eternal life on September 12, 2016 at the age of 59 years.
Raul was born in Rio Grande City to Raul L.+ and Inez C. Hinojosa on May 11, 1957. He attended both parochial and public education locally and graduated from Texas A&I University. He dedicated himself to ranching and agricultural pursuits his entire life, and left a legacy of students throughout South Texas who benefited from his unique style of mentoring and 27 years of dedication to exemplary teaching. He retired from San Isidro High School as a celebrated and beloved faculty member and accomplished FFA sponsor. He reveled in seeing his esteemed students participate in livestock shows, finding scholarship opportunities, continuing their education, and expanding their horizons by pursuing higher education. He served as an inspirational role model and life mentor, sharing bits of humor and wisdom with them.
He is preceded in death by his father Raul L. Hinojosa and his sister, Griselda Iris.
Left to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 27 years, Viola (Leal) Hinojosa, his mother, Inez C. Hinojosa, siblings Rosie (Arnulfo) Garcia, Thalia (Arturo+) Cantu, Cynthia (Rey) Hernandez, Ray Lino (Anne) Hinojosa, Josie (Rodrigo) Reyes, the extended Leal family, as well as numerous nephews and nieces, who heard his hunting and fishing stories, and listened to his jokes and songs. He was a dedicated husband, son, brother and uncle who always put God first, and believed in maintaining traditions, old-school morals and values. We will all miss his cowboy ways.
Mr. Hinojosa was an active member of The San Isidro Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Knight of Columbus with Padre Juan de la Costa #3919, Starr County Youth Fair Director, and proud supporter of Driscoll Children's Hospital as a fundraising auctioneer for many years. He volunteered for charity events and gave selflessly of his time and energy for others. His life was one of servitude to others.
Services have been entrusted to Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City. Visitation will begin Thursday from 1-9 pm, with Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10 am, with burial to follow at City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Raul M. Hinojosa Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 81, Linn, TX 78563.
