Zelma Lisa Garza, a cherished daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted wife, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the South Texas Health System Heart Hospital in McAllen, Texas. Born on September 20, 1966, in McAllen, Texas, Zelma's life was marked by her unwavering love for her family and her enduring spirit.

Zelma’s journey began in McAllen, where she grew up surrounded by close family ties and a community that felt like home. Her presence brought warmth and strength to those around her. She was known for her compassionate nature and the genuine care she extended to everyone she met.

She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Elvira L. Garza, and her husband, David Garza, who stood steadfastly by her side throughout her life’s chapters. Her legacy continues through her son, David Erik Garza, and his wife Vanessa, who carry forward the values and kindness she instilled. Zelma’s heart expanded even more with the joy found in her grand-daughters, Kianna Garza and Jessie Garza, whose smiles and laughter were treasures to her. The bond she shared with her brothers—Patricio E. Garza and his wife San Juanita, Jorge L. Garza and his wife Priscilla, and Rene O. Garza and his wife Daisy—was a source of mutual support and lifelong connection.

Zelma was preceded in death by her father, Lazaro Eduardo Garza, whose memory remains a guiding light in her family’s hearts.

The community is invited to honor and celebrate Zelma’s life during the visitation held at Sanchez Funeral Home, located at 301 East Second St. / P.O. Box 11 in Rio Grande City, Texas. The visitation will take place on Monday, May 25, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a special gathering at 6:00 p.m. The following day, Tuesday, May 26, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., further moments of remembrance will be held at the funeral home. Final farewell tribute will be conducted with burial services beginning at 10:15 a.m. at the Rio Grande City County Cemetery, located at 1043 W Canales 3rd St, Rio Grande City, Texas.

Zelma Lisa Garza’s life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of family. Her memory will forever remain a beacon of strength, compassion, and grace for those who were fortunate to know and love her. She leaves behind a legacy rich in devotion and a lifetime of treasured moments that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
